Friday at the Movies

Luke and I went to see The Avengers this afternoon.

It was really good!  And really funny!

(I didn't even like the movies Captain America or Thor, and I never even saw the Hulk...The only one I saw and liked was Iron Man...)

Here is a "friday funny" quote/conversation from the movie:  (it makes a lot more sense if you've seen the movie...

Bruce Banner: I don't think we should be focusing on Loki. That guy's brain is a bag full of cats. You can smell crazy on him.

Thor: Have a care how you speak. Loki is beyond reason, but he is of Asgard. And he is my brother.

Natasha Romanoff: He killed eighty people in two days.

Thor: He's adopted

Anyway, now we are getting ready for our fun day-trip tomorrow on the Alaska Railroad to...

....drumroll please...

Seward, Alaksa!

So stay tuned!

Out and About on Star Wars Day

It's really cool living near an Air Force Base.  You get to see awesome planes sometimes!  I saw my first AWACS...

We went to the train depot on 1st Street (since their website is dumb...) and bought some 2-for-1 train tickets for next Saturday...the destination is a secret for now.  (How's that for suspense??  Don't worry, I will take the "real" camera on the trip and blog all about it!)

We went downtown and found the coolest running store called Skinny Raven.  I got a Strassburg sock to help with my plantar fasciitis.  Cross your fingers that it works!

This is the running store that is putting on the Twilight 12k.  Luke asked a guy in the store why they did a 12k instead of a 10k...and he said they just wanted to do something different.  We support that! (...literally!)

We found the store downtown that sells Qiviut products.  Qiviut (pronounced 'kiv-ee-ute') is the downy soft under wool from the Arctic musk ox.  (And you can read more about it here...)

They don't sell the actual yarn there...just the products produced from remote Alaskan villages.  The scarves and things are really cool.  Each village has a different pattern in their scarves.  My favorite pattern was butterflies from Bethel. (...And here's a random fact for you-Bethel, Nome, and Kotzebue Alaska are in the same church stake as the ward we are in.  Crazy!)

We went to the mall and while we were there we saw Rita (a friend from our ward).  She told us about a cool thrift store that is a block or so south of the mall.  Of course we checked it out...  I thought they had great stuff.  (It was all girls stuff...not for guys.  But they have comfortable chairs for them to sit on...)

When we were walking back to the car we saw a really cool cloud/building combo.

It looks like the cloud is in the building!  Doesn't it?!?!?  We thought it was AWESOME!

And here at the house...we finally have the guest room ready-with pictures on the walls and everything!

Our very first visitors will be here in one month!  We're so excited!

And we explored behind our house a little.  This is what the back of our house looks like:

And our back yard looks a little like this:

And as for Star Wars day...  May the fourth be with you!  (hahaha!  Get it??)

Happy Friday!  And Happy Weekend too!

Happy Hunger Games Friday!

Luke and I went to see The Hunger Games this afternoon...finally!

Image from:  EntropyTradingCo
We thought it was a great movie!  It made both of us want to read the book again...

And also--during the movie--we both realized that if we were to be tributes in the games, we most likely wouldn't make it past the first day.  Sad.  But true.

After our matinee movie we went to REI and spent our 20% off coupons on some fabulous things.  And then we went to Costco to stock up on chicken nuggets shaped like Micky Mouse heads.  Those are quite delicious!

Happy weekend!  May the odds be ever in your favor!

Oh....I almost forgot it's Friday funny time!

This one is dedicated to my sister Kerri...

Jackpot

So...it turns out there's a big $640 million jackpot up for grabs.

I have never purchased a lottery ticket...and I don't really know much about the lottery, or how they get that money.

Isn't it from ticket sales?

You know the mega millions lottery people are not going to give you ALL the money from the ticket sales...  Say they give 50%.  Does that mean Americans bought $1,280,000,000 worth of lottery tickets?  (Please tell me this isn't so!)

And we wonder why Congress has such a hard time controlling spending.

They are just like the rest of the population.

I saw this on The Week website:
Odds of winning are 1 in 175.7 million.

(So you're saying there's a chance?!?!?)

Happy Friday to all.

And good luck to you suckers who did buy a ticket.

Text Messages

Here's a laugh for your Saturday...I missed the friday funny due to other exciting things.  (What can I say I get distracted sometimes. )

Anyway, my mom just learned how to text...I got my first text from her today!

And then I thought of this:

Friday, March 2, 2012

Who's funny? This guy...

We bought Brian Regan's new cd called All By Myself.

If I had to describe it in one word, that word would be HILARIOUS!

I thought it would be fun to share a video so you could laugh too.

Happy Funny Friday!

Check You Out

It's Friday + I thought this sign was funny= Friday funny. (Math is so easy sometimes!)

Only in Alaska...

Today we went to the Apple store, and guess what?  They have an iPhone app that you can use to check yourself out at the store.  (If this is old news to you just nod your head and say 'that's brilliant'...to me this is cutting edge, people!)

So, if the employees are too busy, pull out your iPhone, scan your bar code, and pay using the credit card on your iTunes account.  What?!?

The guy who helped us download and use the app for the first time said the employees will never ask if you have already paid for something as you leave the store...Apple is trust based...  (Luke says they can afford to be trust based because they make a guh-jillion dollars...or more...every year.)

And then we went to Teavana, where I found something amazing.

Behold the electric tea pot!

Pretty sure there's not an app for that...yet...

Word Clouds and a Belated Friday Funny

I recently found a link (thanks to a cool blog that I read sometimes) to a really fun word cloud generator...thingy...(I'm pretty sure that's the technical term for it...)

It is  Tagxedo.com

I made an Alaska themed cloud...using a cool quote by John Muir that says:  "To the lover of wilderness, Alaska is one of the most beautiful countries in the world."

And after I wrote in the text and chose the color scheme and the shape for the cloud, this is what happened:

I still have a lot to learn about word clouds and using that website...but it was fun to try something new!

And the Friday funny (that I forgot to post yesterday...oops!)...goes like this:

Well let me preface a little first...

We got 2 hotel rooms for Time Out for Women this weekend.  My mom, my sister Wendi, and my sister-in-law Cassie shared one room (#105), and my sister-in-law Kara, my friend Laura, and I shared the other room (#227).  After we checked in at the hotel, we went to our rooms.  (Laura was teaching me all sorts of iPhone tips and tricks, and we were having a marvelous time just hanging out.)

And then...(yes the funny is up next)...

We were getting ready to go get something to eat before the conference started, so Laura went to her car to get her suitcase.

When she finally returned to the room with her suitcase, she held up her key and said:  "in case you are wondering, this key DOES NOT work in room #231."

Oh Laura, you sure do make me laugh!  (Pickle?...another joke, and a story for another day...)

I had a wonderful time this weekend.  (And don't worry, I will write more about the conference later.)

Return of the Jedi...I mean Return of the Friday Funny!

Makes sense, right?!?!?  Those angry birds...and crafty pigs.

And guess what?  The rest of our stuff comes today!  We didn't think it would get here until sometime in February...so I was so surprised when I got the call yesterday and was told it was here already.

Now, the only thing left to get is our car.  And I think that comes next...Tuesday?  Stay tuned!

Occupy...the Weekend...

The Occupy Movement...sure I have heard what's going on.  I don't know everything (nor do I want to), but from what I can tell I am not part of the 1% OR the 99%.  So I don't know who was in charge of doing that math.

This is more of a Friday Sad...not so much funny.  But what's funny is the Occupy people have no concrete objective.  I laugh at the energy they could be putting into something else...something more productive, perhaps?

I think what he have here is a bad case of "entitlement-itis".  (Yes.  I did make that word up.)  But instead of me telling you all about what I think, I found some funnies to pass along to you.

I don't have a droid or an i-pad...  99% my eye...
Maybe Liberal Arts majors don't have to learn the definition of "hypocritical" in order to graduate college...
Parents--change your locks!

But after all is said and done there is one Occupy movement that I support 110%:

Now...that's just NOT right!

Occupy your pajamas...It's the weekend!

11/11/11 A Good Day for Firsts

Luke and I went to IKEA today.  It was the first time I had ever been in any IKEA store.  It was as huge ginormous as I thought it would be, but it was a lot busier than we thought it would be...then we remembered it's a holiday.

**HAPPY VETERAN'S DAY!  We are beyond grateful for those men and women who serve and protect this country.  They don't have to.  They want to.  And we are grateful for their service!**

(Oh and no, Luke did not almost burn down IKEA when he got a cinnamon bun this time.  PHEW!)

We also went to REI and Murdoch's and COSTCO.  We went crazy!  We got ideas of things to put on our Christmas Lists and we bought chocolate.  Lots and lots of chocolate.  17 pounds of Ghirardelli Bittersweet Chocolate Chips.  Best. Chocolate. Chips. Ever.

The best (and most cost effective) place to buy them is at COSTCO, but the only time they have them in stock is around the holidays.  So we bought 5 bags.  (But really we were afraid that there is no access to chocolate in Alaska...and that would. not. be. okay.)

Now for the Friday Funny that you have waited most patiently for...unless you just skipped all of the stuff above...if that is the case, shame on you!  :)

It seems so easy to forget that Christmas...is not this month.  Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Happy weekend to all and to all a good night.  Wait...dang it!  There I go again...

It's Friday Already?

This week has gone by quickly.

Remember last week when I said it was supposed to snow last Tuesday-Wednesday?  Well, it did.

Was it as much as they said it would be?  No.  It wasn't.  (I was expecting this crazy blizzard, and then when the snow came it didn't really even stick.)

Did I hear it was supposed to snow again Tuesday-Wednesday of this week?  Um, I think I heard something...  Not sure.

Well, did it snow again?  OH YES.  (It kind of caught us off guard.  Luckily school was cancelled for my sister and I was able to drive her nifty Subaru Forrester to work.)

Anyway since it's Friday and all, I have been in search of something funny to share.

I hope you enjoy a good laugh or two...

To introduce this photo and why I think it's funny, I will share a quote by my friend John Parker.

A group of friends from church were at a get together somewhere when the topic of Ho Ho's came up.  (No, not the Hostess Ho Hos.  The Chinese Restaurant called Ho Ho's where food is a dollar a scoop.)

One person said:  "Don't eat there!  They serve dead cats!"
John responded:  "I don't care if they serve Kung Pao Kitty, just as long as it's only a dollar a scoop."

So when I saw this on Pinterest (of course...where else would I find it???), I took me back to some pretty good laughs.

Happy weekend!  Go have some Chinese food to celebrate!  :)

Friday Felonies...or maybe just a Misdemeanor.

I was out of town last friday, so I didn't have a Friday Funny.  But now I'm baaaaack, and I have a funny to share with you today.

It's a story about my awesome husband and how he almost burned down IKEA.

Here's the story in his own words:

"So I went to see the phenomenon that is called IKEA.  And while I was perusing, I noticed they had cinnamon buns for $1.  (What a great idea to have food while you shop...that's for the dudes.)  Anyway, I payed my dollar and was told the buns were self serve.  So I went over and got my little wax paper hygienic whatever-those-things-are-called and calmly reached under the glass to get my cinnamon bun.  I had a moment of hesitation trying to decide which delectable cinnamon treat would be mine.  That moment of pause had consequences...  Suddenly my little hygienic-paper-thing burst into flames!  But, I'm an Eagle Scout so I remained cool, calm and collected under fire-quite literally.  I blew the fire out.  It wasn't that big, but it was still noticeably flame-y.
Still holding my smoking paper, I looked up at the cashier lady who was looking at me with eyes as big as the cinnamon rolls (which were not small).  She just looked away.  I don't think she knew what to do.  Not wanting to be wasteful, I used my charred wax paper and retrieved my cinnamon bun as I carefully avoided the heating element this time.  I got a little bit of ash on my cinnamon bun, but it still tasted delicious.  To be safe, I left the store shortly after I ate my bun, so I could avoid any potential criminal charges."

Before I go, I feel the need to say "WAY TO GO CARDINALS!"  They are the 2011 World Series Champions!  To be honest, I don't really follow baseball...but I do like Matt Holliday and he plays for the Cardinals, so I wanted them to beat the Rangers...and they did!  But from what I've heard, the team owes a lot to this little guy:

Behold the rally squirrel!!!
Just giving credit where credit is due  :)

Friday Afternoon Cartoons

This week I found some funny things to share.

This one is from pinterest:

Luke and I laughed so hard when we saw this...  Luke is also considering a wardrobe change for his upcoming interviews...  (You know more "ninja"-neer, not so much engineer...maybe...we'll see.)

Speaking of interviews...Luke is going to Louisiana for an on-site interview (2nd interview) the first weekend of November.  He also has another first interview with a new company next week.

And in the meantime, we wait.

In other funny, not that funny, but kind of funny (in a laugh instead of cry type of way) news, a pastor recently called our religion a cult on national television.

Well Mr. Jeffress...this one's for you:  (from the Salt Lake Tribune)

Also Mr. Jeffress, if you really want know what our religion is about you can visit Mormon.org.  And I would suggest doing so before your next interview with Anderson Cooper.

That is if there is a next interview...

Cheers!  Happy Friday!

Time Out from Pinterest*

It's baaack!  Friday, that is...  The weeks just seem to fly right on by!

Anyway, there's this little website called Pinterest*.  This weeks funny was found there.

When Luke and I saw this, we laughed and laughed...and then laughed some more.  So I thought I would share it today.

I hope it makes you laugh too...or at least a smile.

In other news, my sister Wendi and I are going to Time Out for Women in Denver tonight and tomorrow!  Wahoo!  This year's theme is "Choose to Become".

I'm really excited to go and hear the wonderful messages and music that will be shared.

In other other news, Luke continues the job search.  He had a great interview earlier this week (they even took him out to dinner the next day!).  Also, he got word from a company that he interviewed with last week that they want him to come back for a second interview.  And he has an interview today with a whole new company.  This is all very exciting for us!

Happy Friday to you all!

*Warning: May be habit forming...

Friday Funny...How Embarrassing!

So President Obama came to visit The West earlier this week.  He visited California, Washington, and Colorado- as indicated by this here map:

Um...  I don't think that means what they think it means...

It's Fr-YIE-day!!

If you are my friend Laura or if you live in Denver and listen to 105.9 between 3-7 p.m. on a Friday, you will totally get the meaning of the name of this post...  Otherwise...oh well.

I have to admit that not very many things are funny today.  I have a cold.  Not funny.  Luke had to go spend lots of moolah to register his car today.  Not funny.  Luke's car's VIN number was listed wrong on our insurance, preventing the car registration.  Not funny.  The insurance office tried to fax a new copy to Luke, but their fax machine wasn't working.  So they e-mailed it to me and I printed it off and took it to Luke at the registration office.  Not funny. Actually I did find that kinda funny...  And last but definitely not least, BYU is playing UCF tonight, and who knows how that will turn out after last weeks horrifying game.  Not funny.  I could go on and on...

But, I'm sure you will be pleased to know that I did find something I thought was very amusing on Yahoo.  (Since, I don't watch the news I rely on Yahoo to keep me updated on what's going on in the world...  You know, the important stuff, like how the octomom is about to lose her house and what not to buy at Gap.)

Well I would like to share-on this friday- a picture from Morocco--

Yep.  Those are tree climbing goats. They climb the Argan trees to eat the berries.  Can't you imagine driving by this tree and thinking..."What the....?"

That reminds me of a story told by my grandpa to me and my sister Kerri.

The story was brought on by my sister telling my grandpa that her kids were getting a goat for Easter that year.

Grandpa said:  "We had a goat once."
Kerri, looking worried, said:  "What happened to it?"
Grandpa: "Well, we got a truckload of peaches one year.  The next day we had to go to Provo (which was about 2 hrs away), so we covered the peaches with a tarp until we got back.  While we were gone the goat climbed up on top of the truckbed..."
Me:  "Did the goat eat all the peaches?"
Grandpa:  "By the time we got back all that was left was pits and juice."

So the moral of the story is:  sure goats will eat anything...the problem is they will do anything to eat anything.

I'm glad I don't have a goat.  They can't be trusted.

Hip-hop-opotamus

It's Friday again!  This funny is brought to you in part by the hungry hungry hippos...

Ha!  Those silly hippos...  I used to have this hanging on my refrigerator...  Maybe I should put it up again...

That's funny...it's Friday already!!

This week seemed to fly by... Maybe it's because Monday was a holiday?  Or maybe it's because, in all our spare time, Luke and I were watching episodes of The Mentalist?  I just don't know.  But ready or not- IT'S FRIDAY!
Recently a new IKEA store opened in our little corner of Colorado.  (I posted about it back in March...or sometime...)  I have yet to actually go to the store (or any IKEA for that matter), but in honor of the big blue monstrosity that has landed itself so close to I-25, I dedicate this Friday Funny to IKEA.

Screwdriver anyone?

Friday Funnies

I don't know if this will become a habit, but here is a funny for your Friday...
