Friday Afternoon Cartoons

This week I found some funny things to share.

This one is from pinterest:

Luke and I laughed so hard when we saw this...  Luke is also considering a wardrobe change for his upcoming interviews...  (You know more "ninja"-neer, not so much engineer...maybe...we'll see.)

Speaking of interviews...Luke is going to Louisiana for an on-site interview (2nd interview) the first weekend of November.  He also has another first interview with a new company next week.

And in the meantime, we wait.

In other funny, not that funny, but kind of funny (in a laugh instead of cry type of way) news, a pastor recently called our religion a cult on national television.

Well Mr. Jeffress...this one's for you:  (from the Salt Lake Tribune)

Also Mr. Jeffress, if you really want know what our religion is about you can visit Mormon.org.  And I would suggest doing so before your next interview with Anderson Cooper.

That is if there is a next interview...

Cheers!  Happy Friday!

Luke vs. the Sprinkler Valve

We went to Utah for Memorial Day weekend.  While we were there, Luke helped his bro Zane figure out why the yard sprinklers at the house he bought last year won't work.

Well, after much searching they found the valve to turn the water into the sprinkler lines.  And as soon as the valve was opened they quickly knew what the problem was....  The sprinklers don't work because the pipe connecting the main water line to the sprinkler line was BROKEN.

Then they couldn't get the valve shut due to the mud down in the hole.  So they had to shut off the water main to the house.  Not good.

Finally, they came up with a way to get the mud and water out so they could get a better look at the sprinkler line valve so they could shut it off.

All it takes is a shopvac, pipe from an old hockey goal, and duct tape...oh and an extension cord...oh and a flashlight too.

The water main is on the right.  The sprinkler valve is located in the tiny hole on the left.
And that's how it's done!

P.S.  The sprinkler line/ valve/ everything about it all needs re-done.  Major project ahead for Zane!  (And I know Luke will be excited to help out too!)

Luke Hanzon-Defender of the Universe...or Thesis...whichever comes first..

Today Luke had his Master's Thesis Defense at the Colorado School of Mines.

The title of his Thesis is: "Techoeconomic analysis of the co-production of hydrogen and power in thermochemical-based biorefineries."  (Whew...what a mouthful!)  He did a 40 minute presentation, followed by a question session.  Then he had to meet privately with his thesis committee.

He did a great job!  And most importantly  HE PASSED!

Now just a few more things to do, and he will be set to graduate in May.  Friday May 13, 2011 to be exact...  (oh no.. graduation on Friday the 13th???  *insert creepy music here*  Hopefully it all goes well!)

After his defense we went out to lunch with Luke's parents at Woody's Woodfired Pizza.  Mmmm...so delicious!

Now Luke is taking a nap....  It's about time!
