Sweet Ride

I sold my road bike last Saturday and yesterday I met Luke at the bike store across the street from his work and we purchased a new one.  It's more of a hybrid road bike to pull our new (gently used) bike trailer.  (Which we got a sweet deal on at a yard sale.)

Today Karrick and I took it out for a quick spin.  I think he liked it!  (He didn't cry...so I take that as a good sign...)

Farewell Friends

Goodbyes are dumb.  Especially when you are saying goodbyes to good friends.  We will miss the Watz family!  But the best part is that they are moving back to Colorado...so chances are we will actually see them again someday...so that makes it a little easier to say goodbye.  Kind of.

And they are off to Whittier to catch the ferry to Washington.

Mother's Day/Farewell BBQ

What better way to celebrate Mother's Day than to have a barbecue with friends who are moving away soon?  That was a trick question...there are lots of better ways to celebrate, but it was a beautiful day to barbecue with good friends--who will be greatly missed!

It was originally planned by the Crawn family as a farewell to the Watz family...but now the Crawn's are moving too!  (We have got to stop making friends with people in the military!!!  Just kidding.  But the fact that people move away so much isn't very cool!)  Our other neighbor (Todd) and his girlfriend were also there.  At least he isn't moving...yet...

In other Mother's Day news, Luke had to speak in church this morning.  He did a great job!  I made the most delicious fruit salad (that tastes like Skittles candy) for the BBQ.  It's a recipe by The Pioneer Woman.  (You can find it here.)  And it's officially my first Mother's Day as a mom!  I'm so grateful for Baby K--who is not so baby anymore.  He is a joy to have around!  And now that I'm a mom, I realize even more how much I appreciate my own mom!  Sheesh.  It's hard work!  But it's worth it.  Every bit!  And I remind myself of that often :)

I bought Luke a shirt the other day. Well it was one of those Tee-spring shirts where they have to get enough preorders before they will make the shirt kind of deal... Luckily there were enough orders because it's a pretty sweet shirt.

April? How did that happen?

So...you're still wondering what we did in Hawaii... Well I'm wondering where on earth the time has gone! Don't worry, I will catch up eventually. But for now here are some pictures of Karrick lately (because I know he's the most popular member of our family)

Our friends are moving.  Their house went on the market today.  They don't technically leave AK until mid-May...but still...it's LAME!  The neighborhood is NOT going to be the same without the Watz's!  (Heck, Alaska won't be the same without them!)

**And their house is now under contract...  Who puts their house on the market and sells it the same day?  That's craziness!!

Hawaii Day 3- Epic Waves on the North Shore, Horrible Traffic, and dinner at Ted's Bakery

The waves on the North Shore of Oahu today were epic--biggest in a decade.  Of course we had to go see them.  Along with everyone else on the island…  

First we stopped at Sunset beach…or what was left of the beach.  The waves were eating up the sand like crazy!

The waves were very big…but you can't really tell that in the picture… But you can see all the sand in the water.

Police lady directing traffic.  Sometimes when the waves would come in they would cover the road…as you can tell by the sand on the road.

I tried to get a picture as we passed.  It kind of worked.

The next place we stopped was Pupukea Beach Park.  The waves here were even bigger!  And we got better pictures of them.  The waves were scary huge!

Did I mention how horrible traffic was?  People parked where ever and walked where ever they wanted.  Not cool. 

Then we made our way to Haleiwa.  We went back to Surf and Sea.  The town was packed!  And one of the people working at the store said the tide was coming back in and they were talking about closing the road.  So we decided to make a loop around the island…instead of going back the way we came.

And we hit more traffic.  There was some road construction along the way and just a lot of people on the road in general.  It took awhile to get back to Laie.

For dinner tonight we went back to the North Shore to get food at Ted's Bakery.  YUM!
