Earthquake: I felt that one!

There have been quite a few earthquakes in Alaska since we moved up here in January...but I always hear about them from someone else.

Well this morning I felt my first earthquake!

It happened at 7:02 a.m. and my first mostly-still-asleep thought was "why is the train driving so close to my house?"  Then I realized what was happening and I said out loud "I felt that one!".

Luke was awake too and he responded: "it would've been hard not to!".

It measured a 4.6 and it happened in the Cook Inlet, 19 miles SW of where we live.

Let the good times roll...er....shake?  But not to much...let's not get crazy or anything.

Sound Asleep

There was a 4.1 earthquake here last night.

Did I feel it?

Nope.

Did I even wake up?

I don't think so.

All I remember last night was dreaming about seeing the Northern Lights (which were supposed to be on last night, but I guess they weren't visible here.  Glad I didn't stay up looking for them.  Maybe tonight though.)

Earthquake! (wait...I didn't feel anything...)

I got a text from my neighbor Lezlie at 4:49 p.m. that said "It was an earthquake.  Welcome to Alaska!"

Luke and I were down in the Muldoon area of Anchorage (a.k.a. the closest shopping center to us that has a Target, Lowes, and BestBuy...among other stores), and we didn't feel a thing...

That doesn't mean it didn't happen though...it was a 3.56 earthquake at exactly 4:48 p.m.!

And from what I've found, it won't be the last.  (But Luke says the little quakes are a good sign.  When the little ones stop...then, well you figure it out.)

And just for future reference, this is a picture I found in the online Alaska textbook I have been reading (I figure if we live here, we might as well know stuff too!)

Oh, so that's where the Aleutian islands came from...and they are...volcanic?!?  (See, this is why I have been reading an online Alaska textbook!!!)
