Hawaii Day 1- Shop and Sleep

First of all we had to get here.  That happened yesterday.
Our flight itinerary...
Karrick was asleep when the plane was boarding.  Thank goodness!  But did you know that baby carriers cannot be attached to you when the plane is taking off?  That makes no sense to me whatsoever.  I have to have my seat belt securely fastened…but if there is a child on my lap he cannot under any circumstances be securely fastened to me?  Lame rule.  And while I was taking the straps off he woke up.  Suuuuper lame rule!
Baby K is exhausted already!  Hang in there little buddy…we have a long way to go!
We had the center and aisle seats.  The girl who had the window seat was terrified of flying and was more than happy to switch seats with us after we reached cruising altitude.  She took the aisle and I slid over by the window with Karrick and Luke took the center seat.  This helped a ton in getting K to take a few naps along the way!
Are we there yet??
Once we landed in Honolulu, we had to gather all of our things (mostly things for Karrick) and I waited with K and the luggage cart while Luke went to pick up the rental car.  (We went with a car rental company that wasn't located in the airport because it was a much better deal!)

I waited outside in the heat and stickyness…very different from the conditions we left behind in Alaska!

Once Luke got back with the car, we loaded up and headed off to Laie to our vacation rental apartment.    And once we got here we set up K's bed as quickly as possible and put him to bed.  He actually slept surprisingly well through most of the night (why he doesn't do that at home is a mystery to us!).

Today was our first full day here.  We started off by going to the grocery store to get some things to stock our fridge.  Grocery prices aren't much more here than in Alaska.  One thing that is a lot more here is milk.  Other than that prices are pretty comparable.

Lets go shopping!
Last time I was in Hawaii with my friend Laura, we discovered this delicious Haupia ice cream.  I have been dreaming about it ever since!  And it was as delicious as I remembered!
Ohmygoodnessthisisheavenly!  Luke is a fan of it now too.
After grocery shopping we went back "home" and took another nap.  Well Karrick needed a nap, but we all ended up sleeping!  That's what vacations are for, right?  Resting?

Tonight we ate dinner and then went to Halewia to Surf and Sea so Luke could get some board shorts.  We figured we could look all over AK to find some…or we could just wait and get some here.
Ready to go shopping for some board shorts!
I didn't leave empty handed.  I got a new pair of Rainbows (awesome flip-flops…) my other pair became too small after pregnancy..  So dumb!  But these are even cooler, so I'm not as mad about it now :)  I also found the most amazing chapstick ever.  It tastes delicious!  (Wait.  You're not supposed to eat chapstick?)
