Hiking Date

Fall in Alaska has arrived...and it lasts about one week, so we have to enjoy it while it lasts!

Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day, so instead of having a movie date, Luke and I went hiking to Mile High Saddle.  (Karrick hung out with "aunt" Karen--a very nice lady from our ward at church who watches him every so often.)

It rained a lot earlier in the week (and snowed in higher elevations) so the trail was very muddy and slick in some spots.  But the views from the saddle were worth the slipping and sliding.
Mile high saddle is accessed via a trail in the local state park, but not a very maintained one...
Squirrel!  It was the only wildlife we saw on our adventure (Thank goodness!  We forgot to take our bear spray...)
Some kind of crazy ice/frost
It was unlike anything we had every seen before!
Looking south from the saddle toward the South Fork valley.
Looking north across meadow creek valley.
Looking Northeast (ish) at Mile High peak (I think...thus the name of Mile High Saddle) over the fall colors on the tundra.

On our way back down.  Anchorage and the Cook inlet in the distance.
We are so glad that we were able to get out and enjoy the fall sunshine!
