A Mushroom Walks Into a Bar

A mushroom walks into a bar one evening, sits down, and orders a drink.

The bartender then informs him that they do not serve mushrooms.

"Why not" asks the mushroom, "I'm a fungi!"

Hahaha!  That's my favorite mushroom joke...and it's also the only mushroom joke I know.

If you know me, you know that I hate mushrooms.  A lot.  Hate.  But that didn't stop us from going down to Girdwood and checking out the Fungus Fair going on this weekend.
It turned out to be a bit anti-climactic, but oh well.  We learned there are definitely some poisonous mushrooms 'round these parts!

The mushrooms were displayed on nifty paper plates in the Girdwood library.
Sorry that this one is sideways...but see the red dot in the top corner...Poisonous!
Here are some others that were on display:

The also had books about fungus.  Lots of books.

We didn't stick around the library too long, because we wanted to hike the Winner Creek Trail.  It was a beautiful, cool day, and perfect weather for hiking!  (aka not pouring rain...just a light sprinkling of rain...)dkjd
We ended up finding quite a few mushrooms along the way:

We even found purple mushrooms...
The main goal of the hike was to get to Winner Creek Gorge and go across the hand tram.  (I had been there before, but hadn't ever been across the hand tram...and this was a totally new experience for Luke and Lauren.)

Here is the beautifulness of Winner Creek Gorge:
But to get this picture, we had to be sneaky...

Luckily none of us fell in!
Just past the gorge is the hand tram.  It spans over another gorge...that isn't as cool, but we won't hold that against it...because there's a cool hand tram...

Ok, so I guess it's a pretty gorge too!

On the hike back we found some blueberries.
And of course we tried them...
And they were kind of sour...
After we got back from the hike we drove down to Portage Valley to show Lauren some glaciers (and to do some rock skipping).

We even went to portage lake.  It was very windy and cold.  Typical portage weather.
On the way home, the sun came out for 2 seconds.
I think that was the only time Lauren has seen the sun in Alaska her whole trip...so far at least...
