Some of our friends invited us to go fishing for some Russian River Red Salmon. (The Russian River is on the Kenai Peninsula.) Neither Luke nor I had ever been down to the Russian, so we said "sure!".
We didn't end up catching up anything, but we still had fun! We spent most of our time figuring out what we were supposed to do...the fish aren't feeding, so fishing for them is a bit trickier. But all the advice and instruction we have been given is finally starting to make sense. We just had to get out there and TRY!
Here are some pictures from our adventure!
| There was an air show at the Air Force Base...we didn't go, but we saw the advertisements. We'll have to go next time (which will be in 2 years or so). |
| Looking towards Portage Valley...there's still so much snow! |
| Finally made it around the Turnagain Arm! (We have a joke that the Turnagain Arm is always in the way. And it totally is!) |
| The turnoff to get to Cooper Landing (and Soldotna and Homer and almost everywhere else on the Kenai besides Seward). The mountains are way cooler looking in person! |
| The mighty fishermen...who didn't catch anything... :) |
| The Russian River is beautiful!!! |
| This is at the confluence of the Russian and Kenai Rivers at 10:16 p.m. |
There weren't as many fishermen as I thought there would be. I have seen pictures of "combat fishing" where people shoulder to shoulder. I'm glad this wasn't like that. But had there been more fish running, there would have been a lot more people. That's just the way it goes.
