All Aboard the Klondike Express

Today we went to Whittier (which I would like to rename: Weirdier) for a 26 glacier cruise on Prince William Sound.

It was a cloudy day, BUT it wasn't rainy...and for the Prince William Sound--that is a big deal!

Here are some pictures from our fun adventure:
Going through the Anton Anderson Tunnel to Whittier.  (Notice how sunny it is on this side of the tunnel?  Not so much on the other side...)
Almost out!
We got to Whittier early, so we walked around and explored a little.

Gift shop with an Alaska State Ferry coming in the background.
Eventually we made our way down to the Glacier Cruise dock.
Right this way...
Our boat was dwarfed by the cruise ship...
Boyd and Thais walking to the boat.  The abandoned Army barracks are in the background.
Waiting to board the boat...(Mom-notice my awesome hat???  I love it!  Thank you!)
Our new friends who were also seated at our table on the boat.  They are from Vancouver Canada.
So long Whittier...see you in a few hours.
We saw a sea lion on Egg Rock
Dall's Porpoise (it looks like a mini killer whale/Orca)
A "raft" of sea otters
Sea otters are adorable!
Thais and Luke taking in the sights
We also saw harbor seals...floating on ice.  Brrr!  But they stay on ice near the glaciers to stay away from killer whales...  Orcas don't like the sound of calving (ice falling off of) glaciers, so that's where the seals stay "safe".
Luke, Boyd, Thais, and surprise glacier.
We spent the most time at/got the closest to Surprise Glacier.  We even got to see parts of the ice fall/calve off!

We definitely got to see a lot of ice today!
Group shot :) with Coxe glacier in the background
See those white spots?  Those are Kittywake birds nesting on the hillside.  Nesting time is the only time they are on land...otherwise they are only found on the water.
We saw a lot of beautiful scenery on our trip!
We kept looking for bears, but we didn't ever see any.
This is in College Fjord.  There's a lot of glaciers there...and they are all named after colleges.
And then it was done, and it was time to head back home.
Back through the tunnel...where it was still sunny!
We stopped in Girdwood for dinner at Chair 5 restaurant.
And check out what we found while we were in Girdwood.  America's #1 Laundromat!  Who knew?!?
And the perfect end to the perfect day...  I found a gas station that sells dark chocolate Snickers!
