fun Fun FUN!!!

Last night I had some visitors....(Sleepover!)  My friend Brooklyn's two oldest kids came over for movies, popcorn, and sleeping on couches...for them at least...  Their dad came home for R&R from his current military deployment last night (in the wee hours of the morning), and having them sleepover here was part of the "surprise! dad's home" plan.  (They knew he was coming...just not when he would get here.)

I am always more than happy to help with surprise plans.  Plus the kids slept well and I totally got them to school on time.  AND (the best part of all) they had fun!  (They told me so...and I didn't even have to bribe them!)

After I dropped the kids at school, I went over to Lindsay's to meet her and 2 other ladies from my ward.  Then, we all went together to Anchorage to do an endowment session at the temple.

Afterwards we went to Qdoba for lunch.  I had a delicious taco salad. (not that you care...but it was delicious and I wanted to state that for the record...)

When I got home I finished cleaning the upstairs bathrooms.  (It's not so fun during the cleaning part, but it's fun to have it over with!)

And then tonight I went to a Public Hearing for the Municipality of Anchorage Platting Authority with my neighbor Adrienne.

A few weeks ago we got a notice in the mail that a developer is petitioning for a variance so they can build some duplexes near us.

And we wanted to be responsible home owners, so we went to the meeting.

The main thing we wanted to know was where they were planning on building them.  (We were worried they would be in the field area behind our houses..)  After searching a 90 page document, we finally figured out what was going on.  (They wanted permission to build on the furthermost corner of the open space from us.)  We didn't stay for the whole meeting.  It was taking SO. LONG.

I don't think the petition will be passed.  There were a lot of comments from people and all of them were opposed to the petition.  But I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

It was fun hanging out with Adrienne.  We have such wonderful neighbors!

P.S.  Want to know some fun random Anchorage Alaska temple facts?  I thought you might...  :)

-The Anchorage Alaska temple is the Northernmost temple of the church.
-It was the 54th operating temple.  (There are 136 in operation now...with 30 or so planned/announced...I think that's what they said in conference, anyway...)
-The 700 pound Celestial Room chandelier features thousands of Hungarian crystals and 140 lights.  It makes the room's windows appear gold from the outside.  (It's beautiful!!!!  Haven't seen the gold windows from the outside yet though...)
-Depictions of the North star and the Big Dipper are etched into the granite of one of the exterior walls.  (I have yet to see this...but you can be I will be taking a picture when I find it!)
-The words Holiness to the Lord--The House of the Lord are inscribed in three different locations on the temple: (1) on the east side of the temple on the exterior wall of the Celestial Room, (2) on the base of the spire near the original entrance to the temple (it was expanded in 2003...nearly doubled in size from the original square footage...), and (3) directly over the doors of the new entrance.
